…announces 800% increase in charges and fees
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has announced a review of its fees and charges to ensure the sustainability of its operations amidst the challenging macro-economic environment.
The agency’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, made this announcement at the 28th League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents Annual Conference in Lagos.
According to Umar, the agency’s fees and charges have remained unchanged since 2008, despite a significant increase in costs.
He explained that the agency’s revenue is generated from services provided to the flying community, and that the majority of its revenue comes from en-route navigation charges and terminal navigation charges.
According to him, the agency’s current fees and charges, En-route navigation is 2,000 Naira per flight, Terminal navigation (domestic): 6,000 Naira per flight and Extension of hours of service: 50,000 Naira per extension.
However, Umar announced that the agency will increase its fees and charges by 800% effective September 1, 2024.
The new fees and charges will now be, En-route navigation18,000 Naira per flight, Terminal navigation (domestic): 54,000 Naira per flight and Extension of hours of service: 450,000 Naira per extension.
Umar explained that the increase in fees and charges is necessary to enable the agency recover its costs, which have increased significantly due to the economic challenges facing the country.
He noted that the agency’s personnel costs alone have increased by over 1,000% since 2008.
The NAMA boss also clarified that NAMA does not make a profit from its fees and charges, but rather uses the revenue generated to fund its operations and ensure the safety and efficiency of the airspace.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in the aviation industry, and called on stakeholders to work together to ensure the sustainability of the sector.
