In a move to bolster safety measures and ensure adherence to regulatory standards within Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced a crucial Stakeholders Engagement meeting with airstrip owners and operators.
The high-level forum is scheduled for April 28th, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The engagement aims to foster open dialogue, provide clarity on the NCAA’s regulatory expectations, and collaboratively tackle the various challenges associated with the operation, maintenance, and certification of airstrips nationwide.
The theme of the meeting is “Enhancing Safety, Compliance, and Collaboration for Efficient Airstrip Operations.”
Speaking on the significance of this initiative, the Director General Civil Aviation, NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, emphasized the critical role airstrips play in the nation’s infrastructure.
“Airstrips play a vital role in connecting remote communities, supporting emergency services, and promoting economic development. Ensuring their safety, regulatory compliance, and proper integration into Nigeria’s airspace management system is a national priority,” he stated.
The upcoming forum will focus on several key objectives, including promoting a deeper understanding of the regulatory requirements governing airstrip development and operations, offering clear insights into NCAA guidelines for certification.
Others are, licensing, and ongoing monitoring and ultimately strengthening the collaborative relationship between the NCAA and all airstrip stakeholders to achieve enhanced safety outcomes across the country.
The event will feature insightful presentations from experts representing the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and various technical departments within the NCAA.
Participants will also benefit from peer-to-peer learning opportunities and interactive question-and-answer sessions designed to address specific concerns and foster a shared understanding of best practices.
Expected attendees include a wide range of stakeholders, encompassing both public and private airstrip owners and operators, aviation officials from state governments.
Air navigation service provider, aviation consultants, and representatives from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
