Alhaji Ahmad Abba, the Director overseeing Special Duties at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), has been elected as the new Executive Vice President for the Africa and Middle East Region of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers Associations (IFATCA).

This appointment, announced at the 63rd Annual Conference in Singapore, marks a significant milestone for both Abba and Nigeria’s air traffic control community.

Prior to his new role, Abba served as the Regional Vice President for IFATCA in the Western Subregion.

The Air Transport Management Specialist and Search and Rescue expert commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Managing Director of NAMA, Engineer Farouk Ahmed and the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) for the role they played in ensuring that Nigeria is recognise on the global body of ATCs.

In outlining his vision for the region, Abba emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships with organizations such as ICAO and advocating for increased gender diversity in leadership roles within the air traffic control sector.

“My goal is to enable air traffic controllers to fully leverage these opportunities for continuous growth and skill development. A well trained and up to date air traffic controller is the cornerstone of a safe and efficient airspace.”

His election has garnered widespread congratulatory messages, including from the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), which praised Abba’s exemplary career achievements and leadership qualities.

The Association lauded his dedication to excellence and service, affirming its support for his new role within IFATCA.
