…as SAHCO Clarifies Role in Cargo Handling
Dr. Oloropo Owolabi, former managing director of Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO), strongly condemns the alleged involvement of the company worker in a drug-related issue as reported by the media.
He emphasizes the company’s zero tolerance for illegality, especially concerning drugs, stating that anyone caught is immediately dismissed and handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Dr. Owolabi expresses shock and embarrassment at the media’s blasphemous report, clarifying that SAHCO is not responsible for knowing the content of passengers’ baggage until declared by Customs.
He underscores that SAHCO is not a clearing organization but a handling one, emphasizing the various agencies involved in the clearing process before goods reach SAHCO.
Highlighting the company’s progress, Dr. Owolabi mentions SAHCO’s dedication to becoming the best warehouse in the country, ensuring customers experience ease in receiving their goods without stress.
Earlier in a statement exonerating the company from the drug related bust, the
Head, Corporate Communications, Mrs Venessa Uansohia says, although, we serve as a gateway to Imports and Exports in Nigeria, their role does not include verification, checking the content of cargo as alleged in this report and it is therefore fiendish and cruel to insinuate we run a drug cartel.
“Also, we want to make it clear to the public that all Government agencies, NDLEA, DSS, Quarantine, Airforce etc have unfettered access to our warehouse where they carry out their duties without our interference”.
“It is therefore important to note that this is not the first-time suspects will be arrested within our facilities and we always cooperate with the agencies while they carry out their investigation without shielding anyone involved be it our staff, contractor or business partner”.
She adds, “As a responsible company, we make available the latest technology to assist Government agencies to fight any form of crime within our facilities and we will not relent in doing that”.
