The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO Aviance) has received approval from the Federal Government to handle shipments with radioactive contents in its facilities at airports.

This marks a first in the aviation industry, as the company has been granted the necessary permits by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).

The approval was conveyed in a communique issued after a meeting between the two federal agencies and NAHCO Aviance on February 25, 2005.

The meeting aimed to deliberate on modalities for implementing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the parties on September 1, 2023.

The approval allows NAHCO Aviance to handle import and export of radioactive materials, which were previously affected by an embargo.

The company’s Group Executive Director, Commercial and Business Development, Prince Saheed Lasisi, described the development as a good news for importers and exporters who have been facing challenges in exporting and importing shipments with radioactive contents.

NAHCO Aviance has put in place clear and thorough processes to ensure 100 percent compliance to procedures by highly-trained company professionals as they carry out these specialized functions.

The company’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Olumuyiwa Olumekun, thanked the civil aviation regulator, NCAA, and the NNRA for granting the approval.

The approval is expected to boost the company’s services to international airlines and oil companies that require the handling of critical shipments with radioactive contents.
