Aviation regulators and stakeholders have converged on Lagos to advance the harmonization of aviation regulations across member states.
The gathering is the 7th Meeting of the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation, BAGASOO, Technical Committee on Regulations (TCR-07) which commenced today in Lagos.
Declaring the meeting open, the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, highlighted the committee’s vital role in promoting uniform regulations, guidance materials, and safety standards.
He pointed out the importance of a common regulatory framework that enables mutual recognition of licenses, certificates, and approvals, in accordance with Article 33 of the Chicago Convention.
BAGASOO’s Executive Director, Ms. Jailza Silva, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to enhancing regional aviation safety.
While welcoming the participants, she stressed the need for aligning national regulations to improve efficiency and ensure all member states, regardless of their size or resources, have the necessary tools to meet international standards.
The five-day meeting is expected to produce a comprehensive strategy to support uniform aviation regulations across the region, ensuring no country is left behind in the drive for safer and more efficient air transport.
