LAAC Conference to Tackle Challenges Facing Nigeria’s Aviation Sector

As concerns about the state of Nigeria’s aviation industry continue to grow, industry leaders are gearing up for the 28th edition of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) Annual Conference.

The event, taking place on July 26th at the Providence Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, will bring together Chief Executive Officers of government agencies, airlines operators, and other stakeholders to discuss the challenges facing the sector and proffer solutions.

The conference, themed “AVIATION SURVIVABILITY AMIDST A CHALLENGING MACRO-ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT,” is timely, given the current economic challenges facing the country. Industry bigwigs, including Aviation and Aerospace Development’s Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), will lead the discussions, sharing their expertise and insights on how to navigate the sector’s challenges.

Keyamo, who has confirmed his participation, emphasized the importance of the conference in addressing the industry’s challenges. 

“The challenges before us and the industry are not insurmountable. We need to come together, especially at the LAAC conference, to dissect the challenges one after the other and agree on the steps to take to reach and achieve our goals.”

The conference will feature a keynote speech by the Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Umar Farouk, as well as paper presentations by Capt. Samuel Caulcrick, Former Rector of Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, and Dr. Alex Nwuba, Second Vice President, Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI).

A panel session, moderated by former Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Capt. Hamisu Yadudu, will feature discussants including the Ag. Director General, Civil Aviation, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and Dr. Wale Babalakin, Chairman, Bicourtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL).

Other dignitaries expected to participate in the panel session include the Chairman of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Managing Director, FCM Nigeria, Mr. Adejoju Olutimayin, and Chairman of Association of Ground Handlers of Nigeria (AGHAN), Mr. Olaniyi Adigun.

The LAAC Conference Planning Committee, led by Secretary Albinus Chiedu, has confirmed that the event will be a premier gathering of industry stakeholders, with a focus on finding solutions to the sector’s challenges.

The LAAC Annual Conference has a proven track record of making a significant impact on Nigeria’s aviation sector, and the 2024 edition promises to be no exception.
