The Joint Action Congress (JAC), a coalition of unions representing workers of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has called on the Federal Government to confirm the appointment of Capt. Chris Najomo as the substantive Director-General of the regulatory body.

The unions made the call in a communique at an extraordinary leadership meeting held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Conference Hall of NCAA Annex, Lagos signed by the NCAA Branch chairmen of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Comrade Jakada Anthony,Comrade ‘remi Aderinkomi, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Comrade Ben Godwin, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, ANAP and Comrade Diepreye Saburugha, National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE/JAC.

The JAC expressed implicit confidence in the leadership of Capt. Chris Najomo, who has been acting as Director-General of NCAA for about 10 months.

The unions acknowledged that the current management has brought a new culture of dignity and value for the workforce, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, this, they said, has led to several milestone achievements across the entire Aviation Industry, guided by the five-point agenda of the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.

The unions commended several principal aviation stakeholders who have acknowledged the good work being done by Capt. Chris Najomo to reposition Civil Aviation in Nigeria.

They affirmed that these stakeholders, having witnessed the positive impact of the current leadership, are right to call on the Federal Government to confirm the appointment of Capt. Chris Najomo as a substantive Director-General.

The JAC also emphasized that the evaluation and assessment of Capt. Chris Najomo’s performance can best be achieved by relying on feedback from the aviation industry stakeholders, who have expressed plaudits for the current leadership at NCAA.

The unions reminded the Federal Government that Aviation is a precision industry with no margin of error worldwide, and regulatory and oversight demands firm and professional leadership.

The JAC therefore appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to confirm the appointment of Capt. Chris Ona Najomo as the substantive Director-General of Civil Aviation of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The unions believe that Nigeria has found a formula that works in its civil aviation regulatory leadership and should build upon it to continue repositioning the industry as a hub of civil aviation in Africa.
