The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has successfully mediated a resolution early Thursday morning between the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Turkish Airlines.

This agreement will enable Turkish Airlines to resume the airlifting of its passengers who have been stranded at the International wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos following NUATE’s picketing of the airline on Tuesday.

The intervention by NCAA led to a temporary suspension of further disruptions by NUATE to Turkish Airlines’ operations in both Lagos and Abuja.

This reprieve will facilitate the airlifting of passengers both inbound and outbound, easing the backlog of stranded travelers.

The breakthrough came after a meeting with representatives of the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Mr. Michael Achimugu, who also serves as the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA.

Mr. Achimugu, who had earlier met with the Country Manager of Turkish Airlines in Nigeria on Wednesday evening, pledged to convene with the union on Thursday to address and resolve the issue.

The pivotal meeting included key stakeholders such as NUATE’s General Secretary, Comrade Ochema Aba, and the Regional Manager of NCAA, Mrs. Bukola Teriba, among others.

This agreement marks a significant step in restoring normal operations and alleviating the inconveniences faced by the affected passengers.
