The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has embarked on a nationwide awareness campaign to educate air travelers about their rights and responsibilities, as well as the obligations of airlines.

The campaign, which kicked off in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aims to foster a better understanding between passengers and airlines.

During a briefing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Capt. Chris Najomo Ag. Director-General of the NCAA, emphasized the importance of informing passengers about their entitlements and responsibilities.

“This awareness campaign is to let passengers know their rights and obligations, and to ensure airlines uphold their duties. It’s not about always siding with passengers or airlines but ensuring fair treatment for both,” he said.

Capt. Najomo highlighted common issues like flight delays and cancellations, outlining the regulations governing airline responsibilities.

He stressed the importance of timely communication from airlines to passengers, especially in cases of delays.

“No airline wants to delay a flight intentionally. There are often external factors, but timely communication can reduce frustration,” he remarked.

The NCAA’s Director of Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, reiterated the agency’s commitment to fairness and transparency.

He explained that the initiative is not just about holding airlines accountable but about ensuring mutual understanding between passengers and airlines.

“When passengers arrive late for check-in, they cannot blame the airline. But if they are denied boarding despite following the rules, the NCAA steps in,” Achimugu said.

The NCAA’s awareness campaign will extend to major airports nationwide, with the goal of improving the overall air travel experience for Nigerian passengers.
