A veteran aviation professional and President, Aviation Roundtable Safety Initiative, ART, Dr. Gbenga Olowo turned 70 recently and he celebrated his new age with a launch of the aviation book: ‘Cutting Costs Without Cutting Corners.’
The platinum jubilee, which was held in Lagos was attended by the crème-de-la-crème in the aviation industry, Osun State Government, business world and His Imperial Majesty Ooni of Ife Ọba Adéyeyè Enitan Ògúnwùsì , Òjájá II who played a very key role in the entire programme.
While Capt. Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and his counterpart, Engr. Akin Olateru, the Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau – Nigeria (AIB-N), led the aviation players, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Governor of Osun State, represented by Mr. Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, the Deputy Governor of the state led other government functionaries from Osun and beyond to the colouful occasion.
Colleagues, friends, family members and associates from the Aviation Round Table (ART), poured encomiums on Olowo for his display of professionalism and contributions to the growth of the aviation industry, not just in Nigeria, but on the continent of Africa.
Nuhu, the book chief launcher, said Olowo is a thoroughbred professional who has played a massive role in the sustenance of safety in Nigeria with his unbiased critique of activities in the sector.
Nuhu also described Olowo as a patriot, saying that the book would contribute to the growth of the sector.
“The book is an icing on the cake of such great efforts he is known for over the years. Most importantly, the book is in line with NCAA mandate, which is the enforcement of compliance to safety regulations.
He went on to thank God for the gift of life for the celebrant and commended him, his “supportive wife and children.”
Nuhu launched the book with the sum of N1 million, while several other attendees also contributed to its launch.
Ooni of Ife Ọba Adéyeyè Enitan Ògúnwùsì, Òjájá II challenged Olowo’s children to take a cue from their father by being good citizens of the country.
Olowo in his speech, thanked God for making him witness the 70th birthday despite all the challenges of the past years.
He also thanked Mrs. Stella olubisi Olowo, his wife and the children for standing by him over the years and promised to continue to be an exemplary husband and father figure to the family.
He said: “First and foremost, I want to give thanks to God, the giver of life who allowed June 12 to come. The journey looks like yesterday. When you look back for a second, it’s a long journey loaded with ups and downs.
“I want to thank God that lifted me from the grass to this level of grace. I am so happy to see my wife and the heritage of God given to us as children to see all the ground children, nuclear and the extended family.”
Also, Mrs. Olowo, the wife of the celebrant lauded God for keeping the entire family alive till date despite the challenges, especially the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the entire globe.
“It has been God. We want to really thank God and bless His name for the life of my husband for this wonderful day. Elder Olowo is a tough man and strict, but he is focused. I want to say here that I will marry him again and again.”
Olowo’s children also poured encomiums on him and thanked God for sparing his life.
