The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, this morning closed the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,Abuja, for 30 minutes for safety reasons.
The runway had to be shut down to enable the Authority take safety precautions, as a private jet being operated by Nest Oil skidded off the Abuja runway.
The aircraft lost it’s landing gear in the process but all hands were on deck to put the situation under control and normalcy restored within an hour.
In a tweet, the minister of state, aviation senator Hadi Sirika said the aircraft lost its landing gear in an attempt to return to the runway.
The runway had since be reopened and normal flights operations had since commenced.

in a statement, spokesperson for FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, appreciated the patience of passengers and airport users and promised that the Authority was commitment to promoting safety and comfort across airports in the country.
