The Global Risk Modelling Alliance (GRMA) has expressed its willingness to partner with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) to enhance access to risk data and models.

During a recent courtesy visit to the Director General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, GRMA representatives Alastair Norris and Renuka Srinivasan outlined the proposed partnership.

The partnership aims to leverage open source platforms and open standards to inform risk financing and provide technical assistance through strategic and operational projects co-defined with key stakeholders in Nigeria.

Professor Anosike welcomed the proposal, stating that NiMet is eager to support its efforts and improve its forecasting and dissemination capacity.

NiMet currently provides early warnings to farmers and other stakeholders by downscaling and disseminating seasonal climate predictions (SCPs).

The agency also provides pilot briefings and daily advisories on weather and climate conditions to the aviation sector.

The Global Risk Modelling Alliance is a technical assistance program funded by the German government.

GRMA brings together public and private sector risk expertise to enhance capabilities in vulnerable communities to undertake risk analytics.
