….Marking a Milestone in Nigeria’s Aviation History
Former Governor Udom Emmanuel, the visionary behind Ibom Air in Akwa Ibom State, celebrated a historic moment in Nigeria’s aviation industry as the first of 10 Airbus A220-300 series airplanes, procured during his 2021 tenure, arrived over the weekend.
Founded in 2019 under Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration, Ibom Air marked a significant milestone on November 16, 2021, when the former governor, now founder of Ibom Air, led a delegation to the Dubai Air show.
There, he finalized the agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of 10 new A220-300 series airplanes.
In Montreal, Canada, on Friday, Mr. Emmanuel, accompanied by top management staff of Ibom Air, inspected and officially received the inaugural aircraft at Airbus’ Mirabel facility.
The presentation was conducted by Airbus executives, including CEO Benoit Schultz, Vice-President Daniel Wenninger, Head Of Airbus A220 Delivery Center Marc Arpin, and Cyrille Picard, Sales Director Middle-East & Africa.
Among the key figures from Ibom Air present were Managing Director and CEO Captain Mfon Udom, along with Executive Director and COO Mr. George Uriesi.
During the event, Mr. Emmanuel, expressing his pride, stated that Ibom Air was the first Nigerian airline to take delivery of the innovative Airbus A220.
Recalling his vision during his governorship, he anticipated Ibom Air’s ascent as a dominant player in West African and African aviation, commending Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the state’s aviation development project.
Renowned for its fuel efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and passenger comfort and safety features, the Airbus A220-300 is designed for short and medium-haul commercial operations, boasting a range of up to seven hours (3,450 nautical miles).
The addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet signifies a strategic move for expanded service across diverse destinations within the African continent.
CEO Mr. Mfon Udom expressed great enthusiasm, stating, “The introduction of the Airbus A220-300 to our fleet is a game-changing leap forward for Ibom Air, underscoring our determination to offer world-class airline services to our valued customers.”
