….calls for stronger engineering partnerships in Africa

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has stressed the pivotal role of engineering in the development of smart cities and sustainable urban infrastructure.

President, NSE, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, emphasized this during the opening ceremony of the Ghana Institution of Engineering’s (GhIE) 55th Annual General Meeting and Conference.

Addressing attendees at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Engr. Oguntala reiterated the NSE’s dedication to reinforcing partnerships with the GhIE and other sister institutions to accelerate technological advancement and sustainable development throughout the African continent.

The conference, with the theme, “Urbanization and Smart Cities: Engineering the Future of Ghana,” convened prominent engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders to deliberate on innovative strategies for sustainable urban development and the engineering profession’s contribution to shaping Ghana’s future urban landscapes.

The NSE President, in her goodwill message, commended the GhIE for its commitment to promoting engineering excellence and fostering regional collaborations to tackle the challenges presented by rapid urbanization.

She reaffirmed the crucial responsibility of engineers in creating smart cities, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable urban ecosystems to accommodate expanding populations.

“As engineers, we must persistently leverage emerging technologies and innovative solutions to construct smart, inclusive, and sustainable cities”.

“Cross-border collaboration is indispensable in realizing this vision, and I am pleased to witness the synergy among engineering bodies in Africa.”

The GhIE’s 55th Annual General Meeting and Conference served as a vital forum for knowledge sharing, innovation, and policy recommendations, aimed at engineering a smarter and more sustainable future for Ghanaian cities.
