Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the operator of Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos Terminal Two (MMA2), has announced plans to introduce Nigeria’s first airport digital cold storage system for preserving perishable cargo.

According to a statement by Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head of Corporate Communications at BASL, Remi Jibodu, Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, emphasized that the new storage system is designed to address the increasing demand for preserving perishable cargo passing through Nigerian airports.

“Aircraft belly cargo is subject to availability. When flights are full, airlines have limited capacity for cargo. This often results in an inability to carry all perishable goods. Moreover, businesses hesitant to expand to other Nigerian states due to a lack of cold storage facilities can now rely on our digital cold storage to overcome these challenges,” Jibodu explained.

Jibodu highlighted that this innovation will facilitate seamless cargo operations at MMA2, potentially increasing the number of cargo-related businesses and boosting revenue for the terminal.

“Our focus is on innovation, excellence, and efficiency, which have been our guiding principles. As a terminal operating for 17 years, we have pioneered many industry advancements. This new initiative is part of our continued vision to enhance services in Nigeria,” he stated.

He further added, “We ensure continuous power supply, never experiencing outages longer than 20 seconds. With our value-added services, we have enjoyed loyal patronage from passengers over the past 17 years. We constantly seek to understand and meet their evolving needs, driving us to introduce new solutions like the digital cold storage system.”
