Airport workers, passengers, students and other users of the Lagos airport could not gain access into the terminals, offices, their business places and schools as the students of Nigerian universities stage a peaceful protest over the prolonged lecturers strike.

Air passengers had to get down from their vehicles carried their luggage on their heads and trekked from the Ikeja under the bridge into the airport to avoid missing their early morning flights.

Access roads into the domestic and international airports in Lagos were blocked as the students defied the early morning rains to stage their displeasure over the failure of the Federal Government and the striking universities  lecturers under the aegis of Academic Staff Unions of Universities, ASUU to reach an amicable settlement on the lecturers demand.

The protesting students with placards and singing solidarity songs blocked the Ajao Estate end of the International Airport, the tollgate and the domestic airport end grounding all activities in and out of the environment.

This development led to heavy traffic gridlock on all adjoining roads into the airport and spilled over.

Security operatives stationed at both exits and entry point with their vehicles ensured the protesting university students did not gain access into the airport terminals and maintained law and order.
