The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) will unveil its 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025.

This year’s theme, “The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” underscores the crucial role of accurate weather forecasting in various sectors.

The SCP, a yearly publication, provides valuable insights into expected rainfall patterns, temperature variations, and other climatic factors across Nigeria.

This information is vital for informed decision-making in sectors such as agriculture, aviation, disaster management, and water resources management.

Director General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, emphasized the significance of the SCP, stating, “The publication highlights vital Weather and Climate information that may affect socio-economic activities in various sectors.”

The 2025 SCP will include key details such as: Onset and cessation dates of the rainy season, length of the cropping season, expected rainfall amounts for all 774 Local Government Areas, temperature forecasts (January – May) and malaria and Meningitis vigilance forecasts.

The public presentation will be attended by a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from the public and private sectors, development partners, NGOs, the diplomatic community, and farmers’ associations.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, will officially present the SCP document alongside its summary for policymakers, translations in three major Nigerian languages, and a comprehensive “State of the Climate in Nigeria” report.
