Over 68,000 passports have been issued and collected in the last six months at the passport office of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ikoyi Lagos.

This is just as the office also produced over 72,000 within the same period.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that some of the major changes that have faciltated the issuance of passports at the Ikoyi passport office, with regards to processes and procedure was attributed to the Comptroller General of  Immigration, quest to ease the acquisition of the passport and removal of any form of cash transaction that may lead to gratification of officers.

The office it was learnt had to embark on night shifts and each night about 2,000 booklets were produced to meet up with the large volume of passport booklet backlogs to enable it avert a monumental disaster.

According to our correspondent, the number of passports 72,000 produced is significant following the earlier half of the year when there were complains of lack of passport booklets to cater for the large number of applicants that trooped to the office.
