The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has successfully recovered the fifth body from the crashed helicopter in Port Harcourt.
The accident, which occurred on October 24, 2024, took place off the coast of Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean. and involved eight individuals onboard.
In a statement, the NSIB spokesperson, Mrs Bimbo Oladeji said, while the body is currently undergoing specialized handling due to its decomposed state, it will soon be transported to the morgue.
According to her, the recovery operation, which began last week, has been a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders.
Despite challenging weather conditions and the vast search area, the NSIB team, in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy and other partners, has diligently worked to locate and retrieve the remains.
The NSIB has detailed the timeline of the recovery efforts, highlighting the challenges faced and the strategies employed to overcome them.
From identifying the body in the water to coordinating with various agencies for air and sea support, the team has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the mission.
Director General, NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed gratitude to all involved in the operation and acknowledged the challenges posed by the environmental conditions.
He emphasized the team’s dedication to completing the recovery process with utmost professionalism and care.
