The 31st Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) International Convention has concluded in Nairobi, Kenya, with a focus on advancing industrialization across Africa.

The event brought together engineering leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders from across the continent to discuss strategies for harnessing industrial development to drive economic growth and job creation.

The convention, held under the theme “Industrialization for Economic Transformation and Employment Creation,” featured a keynote address by Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), on “The Importance of Women’s Leadership in the Era of Industrialization.”

In her speech, Engr. Oguntala emphasized the pivotal role women play in leadership and innovation within the engineering sector, particularly as countries across Africa intensify efforts toward industrial transformation.

She stressed that as the engineering industry grows, it must prioritize gender inclusivity and actively support women’s involvement in leadership positions.

“Industrialization requires diverse perspectives and inclusive leadership to effectively address our continent’s unique challenges and to foster economic resilience,” she said.

The Nigerian delegation’s participation in the convention underscored NSE’s commitment to fostering international collaborations that propel engineering excellence and sustainable development throughout Africa.

The event provided a platform for engineers and industry leaders to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices in advancing industrialization and economic transformation across the continent.

The 7th Women Engineers’ Summit, held during the convention, highlighted the importance of women’s leadership in the engineering sector and provided a platform for women engineers to share their experiences and challenges.

The summit aimed to inspire and empower women engineers to take on leadership roles and contribute to the growth and development of the engineering industry.

The IEK International Convention is a major gathering of engineering professionals focused on advancing industrialization across Africa.

The event is expected to have a lasting impact on the engineering industry and contribute to the economic transformation of the continent.
