Bayelsa Cargo Airport to begin operations this August

The Bayelsa state government is set to open it international cargo airport for flight operations this August.

The airport is geared toward attracting investors, stimulating and boosting the economic activities of State.

With 40% of Bayelsans as passengers using the Port Harcourt airport, the state seem to have the customer base in terms of passengers.

The Managing Director, Bayelsa Airlines limited, Captain Henry Ungbuku speaking on the airport and its potential at the ongoing Airport Business Summit and Expo in Abuja said, the project was at its final stage of completion and would be inaugurated at the end of August.

He said the airport was being constructed to guarantee security for the people of the state especially for oil workers adding that work was on going round the clock to meet the date.

According to him, the potential of the airport was enormous not only for job creation but also for the provision of critical facilities such as hangar.

He noted that airports were not built for passenger facilitation alone but also for the movement of cargo in order to attract businesses.

Captain Ungbuku explained that the airport would accommodate Boeing 747’s aircraft when completed adding that it was being fitted with category II landing facilities to ensure that there was no flight disruption during bad weather.

The Bayelsa airlines Managing Director expressed optimism that the president and Commander in chief, president Mohammadu Buhari would be present to inaugurate the airport by August 27 and thanked the state government for the opportunity given him to serve the people of the state.
