The Enugu Air Embraer 170 aircraft recent arrival at Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) is set to boost passenger traffic, enhance revenue generation, and create new job opportunities in the aviation sector.
This is according to Mr. Hilary Umunna, the Regional Manager, South East Airports, and Manager of AIIA during a chat with newsmen.
The launch of Enugu Air is seen as a strategic development for the region, offering greater accessibility and contributing to the state’s economic growth ambitions.
Speaking after the airline’s inaugural arrival on March 28, 2025, Umunna highlighted the economic benefits expected from the new carrier’s operations.
“We anticipate positive ripple effects for Enugu State and the Southeast region, fostering trade, tourism, and business growth,” he said. “One of FAAN’s goals is to sustain and expand partnerships that will make Enugu a strategic aviation hub.”
Umunna, who previously played a key role in the establishment of Cally Air during his tenure as Calabar Airport Manager, emphasized that AIIA has undertaken various improvements to support the new airline.
These include infrastructure upgrades, enhanced ground handling services, strengthened security measures, and adherence to international safety and operational standards.
He added that improved coordination with stakeholders has been implemented to ensure smooth operations for Enugu Air.
