….champion african aviation goals as board pushes for certification and training

In a stride that reverberates across the African skies, Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has assumed her role as the Regional Adviser for Africa on the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board.

According to a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah, her presence at the recent pivotal meeting in Milan, Italy, signifies more than just personal achievement; it marks a watershed moment for both FAAN and the continent’s aviation sector.

This appointment, she noted born from her nomination at the ACI Africa Conference last September, elevates Nigeria’s stature on the global aviation stage.

Mrs. Kuku joins a prestigious assembly of 28 CEOs, who collectively shape the strategic trajectory of the global airport industry.

Her voice now ensures that African concerns, particularly those surrounding long-term carbon reduction, sustainable airport development, and operational excellence, are integral to these high-level discussions.

The meeting underscored ACI Africa’s commitment to bolstering the continent’s airports.

Secretary General Ali Tounsi presented a suite of initiatives designed to elevate African airports through certification assistance, comprehensive development programs, targeted training, and vital technical support.

These programs reflect a unified push to align African airports with international standards, enhancing both capacity and efficiency.

Central to this vision is the forging of strategic alliances between African airports, ACI Africa, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

This collaborative framework aims to drive sustainable growth and strengthen regulatory compliance across the continent.

Mrs. Kuku’s involvement is perceived as instrumental in cultivating these partnerships, ensuring that Africa’s aviation sector realizes its full potential.

This appointment solidifies Nigeria’s leadership role in African aviation and foreshadows significant advancements in airport operations and development throughout the region.

The implications of this development are poised to leave a lasting imprint on both Nigeria’s aviation landscape and the broader African sector, a story that continues to unfold with promise.
