Celebrations as Ethiopian Airlines Brings Africa’s First Airbus A350-1000 to Nigerian Skies

Today, a new era in African aviation dawned as Ethiopian Airlines, the continent’s leading carrier, made history by operating its inaugural flight to Lagos, Nigeria, with its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000. 

This momentous occasion marked a significant milestone for both the airline and the Nigerian aviation industry.

As the aircraft touched down at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos,  it was greeted with a spectacular water cannon salute, a testament to the excitement and anticipation surrounding its arrival. 

Dignitaries, aviation enthusiasts, and media gathered to witness this historic event with 272 passengers, 15 in Business Class and 257 in Economy and flown by captain Sisay Kebede.

A series of celebratory events followed, including a welcome ceremony at the airline’s counter, where officials and guests posed for photographs to commemorate the occasion. 

The festivities continued at the airside, there were refreshments, and a captivating cake-cutting ceremony  shared by the esteemed captain and dignitaries and tour of the aircraft before passenger boarding.

The GM Ethiopian Airlines Nigeria, Wondwossen Beyene in short speech after the tour said, the aircraft is a game-changer in the aviation industry, boasting unparalleled comfort, efficiency, and technological advancements. 

“This aircraft will not only elevate the travel experience for passengers but also strengthen trade and economic ties between Africa and the rest of the world”.

“It also provides increased cargo capacity, facilitating seamless transportation of goods and services”, he added.

Beyene noted that, today’s event would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Ethiopian Airlines’ team, and Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and the Lagos State Government for their unwavering support.

According to him,  three more Airbus A350-1000 Aircrafts are expected in a few months ahead.

The A350-1000, a marvel of modern engineering, offers passengers an unparalleled travel experience. 

Its sleek design, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, ensures a quieter, smoother, and more fuel-efficient flight. Inside, passengers are treated to the latest in-flight entertainment system, Thales’ AVANT Up, and high-speed connectivity, allowing them to stay connected throughout their journey.

Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic decision to invest in the A350-1000 reaffirms its commitment to providing world-class service and setting new industry standards. 

With the addition of three more A350-1000 aircraft to its fleet in the coming months, the airline is poised to further expand its global network and elevate the travel experience for its valued customers.
