The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says normalcy has returned to the Akure airport with the successful evacuation of cows on the runway of the airport.

An AirPeace which left Lagos to the airport could not land immediately as some cows had strayed into the runway of the airport.

The aircraft registration number 5NBQQ later landed more than 20 minutes after hovering around to allow the evacuation of the cows

It was reported that pilot, Captain Williams Inyang contemplated an air return to Lagos when it was taking longer than necessary for the runway to be cleared by the airport security.

General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu in a statement, apologised to the airline and said it took the combined efforts of the officers of the aviation security department and other security at the airport to quickly dispersed the cows from the runway and the aircraft was cleared for landing.

“apologize to Air Peace Airlines and our esteemed passengers for a runway incursion incident that prevented an Akure airport bound flight from landing for some minutes”.
She assured travellers and the general public that efforts were already ongoing to close the gap that aided this incident.

Spokeman AirPeace, Mr. Chris Iwarah has commended FAAN for acting swiftly to clear the runway.

According to him,”it’s our collective duty to ensure the best for our aviation sector”.
