The newly appointed Manager of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Mr. Gbenga Afuwape has commenced his tenure with a flurry of activity, immediately engaging key stakeholders and conducting thorough inspections of ongoing upgrade projects.
Beginning his role on Monday, Afuwape prioritized collaboration, holding a crucial meeting with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss the state-sponsored airport enhancement initiative.
The following day, he welcomed Vice President Kassim Shettima to the airport, demonstrating the facility’s significance.
Since his arrival, Afuwape has engaged in extensive consultations, convening meetings with Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) management, members of the airport upgrade committee, various stakeholders, and community leaders.
During a brief handover ceremony, he stressed the importance of teamwork as a cornerstone for development and success.
His commitment to progress was further evidenced by immediate on-the-spot inspections of the airport’s upgrade work.
Recognizing the importance of security, Afuwape has announced plans to meet with relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Air Force, the Nigeria Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
With a Bachelor’s degree in English and a robust background in airport operations, garnered from experience at Nnamdi Azikiwe and Murtala Muhammed International Airports, Afuwape brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
He previously served as a Terminal Manager and Technical Adviser to the Regional Manager South West.
Afuwape professional background also includes a stint in journalism with Vanguard Media Limited, from 1995 to 2003.
His diverse experience and proactive approach are expected to drive significant progress at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
