….as ATCs get new secretariat, eye more amenities
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Ahmed Farouk, has called on air traffic controllers (ATCs) to rededicate themselves to ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s airspace.
Engr. Farouk made this appeal during the inauguration of a new secretariat built by the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
Represented by NAMA’s Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr. John Tayo, he urged ATCs to reciprocate the management’s commitment to staff welfare by demonstrating professionalism and dedication to service delivery.
He further encouraged controllers to uphold ethical standards and avoid actions that could tarnish the reputation of NAMA among global aviation agencies.
Expressing his delight at the completion of the project within a few months, Farouk commended the efforts of the Lagos NATCA Chairman, Mr. Harrison Duru, for his leadership in seeing the project through.
“What we are seeing here is as a result the selfless efforts put in by everyone to see it completed. I can see that out future is bright already”.
He also acknowledged the support of the Airspace Manager in facilitating the project.
In his remarks, Mr. Harrison Duru revealed that the idea for the secretariat arose after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) demolished the personnel area previously used by ATCs last year.
He noted that the new facility was made possible through collective effort and goodwill.
Duru further outlined plans for additional amenities, including a gym and table tennis court, to benefit both ATCs and the wider aviation community.
He appealed to NAMA’s management to help furnish the secretariat with necessary office equipment while urging his colleagues to make judicious use of the facility.
The new secretariat will serve as a relaxation center for ATCs before and after duty, as well as a space for post-work briefings.
Dignitaries at the unveiling ceremony included the General Managers of Aeronautical Information Services, Alhaji Gausa Yahaya, and Human Resources, Mr. Solomon Ohiomah, as well as the Airspace Manager for Murtala Muhammed Airport and the Military Airport Commandant, Group Capt. Stella Udo.
