The Youth Tourism and Hospitality Leaders Forum (YTHLF) has honoured Ambassador Ikechi Uko, the founder of Akwaaba African Travel Market, for his outstanding contributions to the tourism sector in Nigeria.
The event, now in its 20th edition, has become a beacon of hope for the country’s travel and tourism industry.
Akwaaba African Travel Market, held annually in Lagos, has been instrumental in promoting Nigeria’s travel, tourism, and hospitality industry, despite the country’s slow pace of development in the sector according to the Convener of YTHLF, Mr. Omololu Olumuyiwa, who praised Ambassador Uko’s tireless efforts.
“For 20 years, Ambassador Ikechi Uko has been the driving force behind Akwaaba African Travel Market, and we are grateful for his dedication to promoting Nigeria’s tourism industry. His commitment has brought recognition to Nigeria on the global stage, and we are proud to celebrate his achievements.”
In a his speech at the event, Olumuyiwa said, the event has successfully attracted thousands of foreign visitors, including notable African personalities and several African presidents, to Nigeria.
“I have been attending Akwaaba for the past 17 years non-stop and I can really say a lot about the event”.
He added, Ambassador Ikechi Uko’s dedication to promoting Nigeria’s tourism industry has been unwavering, and his efforts have paid off and has made Nigeria’s name prominent on the “Global Tourism Map” over the past 20 years.
“At this 20th edition and anniversary of this event, it is my humble pleasure with my team and members of Youth Tourism and Hospitality Leaders Forum to celebrate and honour the man who has done a lot for our tourism promotion in Nigeria in person of Ambassador Ikechi Uko”.
YTHLF, in recognition of his hard work and commitment, presented a token gift to Ambassador Uko to show their appreciation for his passion, resilience, and development of tourism in Nigeria.
The 20th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market, held at the prestigious Eko Hotels Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together industry stakeholders, tourism officials, and foreign visitors to discuss the latest trends and opportunities in the travel and tourism sector.
As the event celebrates its 20th anniversary, the group says, it is clear that Ambassador Ikechi Uko’s vision has come to fruition.
