The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has successfully sent its firefighters to undergo training at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria.
This milestone achievement is attributed to the tireless efforts of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN.
The journey to this accomplishment began with the procurement of a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Aircraft Fire Simulator by the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, which was delivered to NCAT but remained unused for several years.
The Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA) played a crucial role in convincing the current Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to activate the simulator and put it to use.
However, a major hurdle remained, as a significant backlog of training requests threatened to delay the firefighters’ training.
Undeterred, Mrs. Kuku took decisive action, inviting the management of NCAT to FAAN headquarters in Lagos in May 2024 to discuss a way forward.
Her determination and pragmatic leadership style ultimately led to the resolution of the issue, and the FAAN firefighters are now undergoing the much-needed Aircraft Fire Simulator Course at NCAT.
This achievement is a testament to Mrs. Kuku’s transformational leadership and her commitment to prioritizing the training and development of FAAN staff.
Her vision for a more productive and efficient organization is evident in her decision to send the firefighters to NCAT, and this move is expected to have a lasting impact on the history of FAAN.
By addressing the long-standing issue of training, Mrs. Kuku has demonstrated her dedication to the growth and advancement of the Nigerian aviation industry.
