As the Nigeria aviation industry begins to experience a gradual rebound as the pandemic eases, major players and stakeholders believe more still needed to be done towards the speedy recovery of the industry.

To this end, major players, airport managers, regulator, cargo companies, airlines, government security agencies, consumer protection agency and other stakeholders gathered at the Airport Business Summit and Expo to review actions and steps taken so far to encourage the rebound of aviation business and evaluate the impact of government COVID relief support to the industry and analyze various revenue options.

Declaring the 4-day summit opened with the theme: Airport Business Summit on Aero cargo logistics and drone technology expo’, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Captain Rabiu Yadudu called on all stakeholders to work as a team, putting aside their differences and sentiments to grow the industry and help it to recover quickly.

He applauded the efforts put up by all to sustain the industry in the hit of the lockdown in 2020 in ensuring the seamless movement of cargoes and evacuation flights, adding that with the successes achieved thus far, more efforts are needed to overcome other challenges that may come.

“We can surmount it if we work together, synergy is a combination of efforts, teamwork gets achievements, we are succeeding and we are doing things right”.

The regional Manager, South-West Airports and Manager, MMIA Lagos, Victoria Shinaba said, after successfully managing airport operations after the lockdown, MMA achieved the Airport Health Accreditation #AHA from Airport Council International (ACI).

This endorsement she emphasized aligned with FAAN commitment to protect the health and safety of passengers, staff and stakeholders during the pandemic and beyond.

She said, there are tremendous investment opportunities at the MMIA ranging from concession spaces, advertisement, agro-allied business at the cargo terminal and a host of other business prospects.

“Hopefully, when the new International Terminal comes into operations, further increasing the passenger throughput will invariably widen the business opportunities”.

“Consequent to the evolving air travel landscape where passengers demand higher levels of service and regulators are paying closer attention to airport service provision and quality of service delivery, MMA will continue to ensure seamless facilitation and quality passenger experience”.

“The airport is also undergoing an aerodrome Re-certification process by Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)”.
