The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margret Oguntala, has joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 World Engineering Day (WED), recognizing the vital contributions of engineers to sustainable development.
In a goodwill message, Engr. Oguntala commended the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for establishing WED as an annual event to acknowledge the crucial role of engineers in shaping a better world.
She praised Nigerian engineers for their dedication to excellence, innovation, and sustainable development, noting that their participation in WED celebrations has amplified the visibility of the profession.
This year’s global theme, “Shaping Our Sustainable Future Through Engineering,” resonates with Nigerian engineers, who are at the forefront of addressing global challenges such as climate change, clean energy, water management, infrastructure resilience, and digital transformation.
Engr. Oguntala expressed gratitude to policymakers, leading scientists, captains of industry, and stakeholders for collaborating with Nigerian engineers to drive progress and development.
“I remain optimistic that our joint efforts will bring about the much needed transformation in advancing our economy and shaping a sustainable future for our country through engineering”.
She harped on the importance of continued cooperation and support to effectively tackle the country’s infrastructure development and maintenance challenges.
The NSE President urged Nigerian engineers to remain steadfast in their commitment to making a lasting impact locally and globally, as the world looks to them for innovative solutions.
