Travis Adkins, President and CEO of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF), has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting youth, women’s empowerment, and economic growth in the country.
During his visit to Lagos, Nigeria, Adkins announced a new grant for Reeddi Technologies Limited, a climate-tech company that has been instrumental in providing off-grid energy solutions to Nigerian communities.
The funding will enable Reeddi to expand its operations and reach even more underserved areas.
Adkins also met with Lagos State officials to discuss ways to enhance collaboration and create more job opportunities for young Nigerians.
The USADF renewed its Memorandum of Understanding with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), pledging to empower 10,000 young people with vocational skills.
Additionally, Adkins participated in a grant award ceremony at Field of Skills and Dreams VTE Academy, a leading vocational training institute.
The grant will support a twelve-week training program for 400 young people in the hospitality and fashion sectors.
Adkins also attended the launch of the “What If Youth and Women Empowerment Initiative” basketball camp, supported by the USADF and the National Basketball Players Association.
The camp aims to empower young people through sports and build their skills both on and off the court.
Throughout his visit, Adkins emphasized USADF’s dedication to supporting African-led solutions and fostering innovation.
Since 2001, the organization has invested over $44 million in Nigeria, supporting over 480 projects.
“Nigeria is a key country for USADF, and I’m delighted to be back here,” Adkins said.
“Our partnerships and investments demonstrate our commitment to creating opportunities for young people, promoting gender equality, and providing sustainable energy solutions.”
