All is not well in the Aviation industry as unions are vexed over the proposed planned and approved concession of the 4 major airports in the country by the the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC.
Just today, the unions warned the NAMA management to discard its planned payment of incomplete salaries to workers.

In the midst of trying to stay afloat due to the  impact of the COVID19 and planned resumption of flights,  the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC approved the planned concession of the four major airports namely, Lagos Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano.

Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika who was elated at the receipt of  the outline business case certificate of compliance  from the ICPC is expected to present to the Federal Executive Council Meeting for final assent.

Irked by this development and arising from an extraordinary emergency Joint Action Committee, JAC meeting on the matter, the unions, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, FAAN branch say they will resist this attempt by the Minister.

In a bulletin which read, “the unions of ATSSSAN, NUATE, ANAP and NUP have resolved to resist vehemently the proposed concessioning of the four (4) major airports by government.”

” The unions are concerned that due process was violated by government, thereby the interests of Nigerians and workers cannot be protected.”
” In view of the above all FAAN workers and  pensioners nationwide are hereby  placed on RED ALERT or further directive.”
“Meanwhile  we enjoin all FAAN workers and pensioners to embark on one week  prayer/fasting starting Friday 26th June, 2020.”
The bulletin concludes: ” when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty”
