The Director General, Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has called for strengthened collaboration, innovation, and personnel competence as key drivers in safeguarding Nigeria’s aviation industry against evolving security threats.
Speaking at the High-Level Aviation Security Stakeholders’ Symposium, with the theme: ‘Fundamentality of Security in Achieving the Safe-Skies Goal’, Capt. Najomo described the aviation sector as a vital enabler of global connectivity, economic development, and cultural exchange.
He warned, however, that the same connectivity exposes the industry to increasingly complex threats, including cyber attacks, terrorism, insider threats, and the misuse of unmanned aerial systems.
“The threat environment is constantly changing. Any attack on civil aviation can only be countered through the implementation of effective aviation security measures, delivered by competent professionals.”
Captain Najomo stressed the pivotal role of human capacity in the sector, repeating the critical need for continuous training.
As an aviator himself, he harped on the importance of vigilance, stakeholder collaboration, technological innovation, and unwavering adherence to international standards.
“Together, we can shape a safer and more secure future for Nigeria and global aviation,” he said.
In her goodwill message, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku reaffirmed the need for a dynamic and resilient approach to aviation security, particularly as threats become more complex in an era of rapid technological advancement.
