Following reports of the movement of some members of a terrorist group into the country, security has been doubled at airports and surveillance of sensitive areas.
The heightened security at the airports especially the International airports namely, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port-Harcourt and Enugu is to forestall any attacks and keep the environment safe and secured for passengers and airport users.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN says security officers which comprise the joint military task force and aviation security have been deployed to keep a close eye on the perimeter fence, the cargo area, the runway and other restricted areas.
General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu said screening of baggage before entering the terminal is very key and as such any baggage that is suspect, is taken aside and manually checked by operatives of the Bomb Detection Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, the quarantine, NDLEA and AVSEC officers.
” All of our major airports especially the international airports, we have the joint military task force and they are helping us to to check all of this and is being handled at the highest level and I can assure you that FAAN is working hard that such thing do not happen at our airports”.
She noted that security patrol around the departure and arrival terminals of the international airports are on and the CCTV cameras are also there to monitor activities within and around the airport environments to forestall any form of security breach.
“We are encouraging passengers to make use of the multi-storey car park to reduce the number of vehicles dropping and picking up departing and arriving passengers.
