A close call gripped the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan this morning when a private jet, N580KR, veered off the runway upon landing at 10:55am.

Fortunately, the Mattini Air-operated CL60 aircraft from Abuja recorded no injuries among its 15 occupants, 12 passengers and 3 crew members.

Investigations point to a brake failure as the culprit, causing the aircraft to overshoot runway 22. Thankfully, it came to a standstill 170 meters from the far end and 60 meters from the threshold of runway 04.

Swift action by the FAAN Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service and other emergency personnel ensured the safe evacuation of everyone onboard.

This incident, coming on the heels of a similar scare at the same airport just two months ago involving a Flint Aero HS 125, raises concerns about potential safety issues at the facility.

Further investigation and corrective measures are crucial to prevent similar situations and ensure the safety of passengers and crew in the future.
