At the 7th African Women Engineers Forum 2024, held in Angola as part of the 10th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week & 8th Africa Engineering Conference, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, made a powerful appearance as a panelist.

As the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), she shared her inspiring journey to becoming the first female President of the organization, highlighting the challenges she faced and the stereotypes she overcame.

The forum, themed “Empowering Women in Building a Sustainable African Future,” focused on promoting women’s leadership in engineering and fostering their contributions to sustainable development in Africa.

During the panel discussion, Engr. Oguntala spoke about her path to success, crediting her resilience, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to professional excellence.

“I knew I had to be twice as good to be considered equal, and I focused on continuous learning, skill development, and building strategic relationships,” she remarked.

As the first female President of the NSE, Engr. Oguntala has been at the forefront of promoting capacity development and gender inclusivity within the engineering profession.

She emphasized the importance of capacity development in creating future leaders, stating that through various NSE initiatives, young professionals, especially women, are given the tools and opportunities to succeed.

The African Women Engineers Forum is an integral component of the larger 10th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week & 8th Africa Engineering Conference, which carries the theme “Engineering the Future: Innovative Infrastructure Solutions for a Sustainable Africa and Swift AfCFTA Implementation.”

The conference brought together engineering professionals from across Africa to explore cutting-edge solutions for infrastructure development, economic integration, and sustainability on the continent.
