The Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo is seeking stakeholders collaboration and understanding between the regulatory body and airstrip operators to enhance safety and compliance with global standards.
Speaking at the NCAA recently hosted stakeholders’ meeting with airstrip owners and operators in Lagos, Capt. Najomo emphasized the importance of regulatory oversight in ensuring the safe operation of airstrips, with the NCAA working to develop customized regulations for airstrips to promote general aviation while maintaining safety standards.
This effort aligns with the Minister’s 5-point agenda according to the DGCA and seeks to address the challenges faced by airstrip operators, including the need for valid operational permits.
With around 92 airstrips in Nigeria, Capt. Najomo says, the NCAA recognizes the need for effective communication, clarification of regulatory requirements, and identification of challenges faced by operators.
He encouraged airstrip operators to adopt global best practices in operations and management, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
By working together, the NCAA and airstrip operators, Capt Najomo says, can raise the aviation bar in Nigeria, ensuring that airstrip operations are conducted in strict compliance with regulatory provisions and global standards.
The stakeholders’ meeting organized by the NCAA with the theme: The meeting with the theme, “Enhancing Safety, Compliance and Collaboration for Efficient Airstrips Operations,” provided a platform for airstrip owners and operators to engage with the NCAA, foster mutual understanding, and explore opportunities for collaborative development and integration into Nigeria’s aviation system.
