The Federal Government has clarified the suspension of the helicopter landing levy collection project, which was temporarily halted to address concerns raised by industry players.
In a document titled “Aviation Industry Update: Clearing the Air on Helicopter Landing Levies Collection,” the government sought to set the record straight and clear up confusion among stakeholders.
According to the document, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, suspended the project to conduct a comprehensive review of the issues raised by stakeholders.
The suspension does not cancel the concession and mandate granted to the consultants responsible for collecting the levies.
Instead, a specially constituted committee, comprising representatives from the Ministry, its relevant agencies, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), and International Oil Companies (IOCs), is working to develop a workable framework for implementing compliance with landing levy payments.
The committee’s primary objective is to ensure a win-win situation for all stakeholders.
According to Keyamo also in a statement, the suspension is a temporary measure aimed at resolving the current impasse and reiterated his commitment to finding a lasting solution that benefits all parties involved.
The committee’s recommendations will be crucial in shaping the future of helicopter landing levies collection and ensuring a sustainable and thriving aviation industry.
The government urged all stakeholders to remain calm and supportive as they work together towards a resolution.
