…..champions advancement in Nigeria’s cargo and aviation sector

Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC recently hosted a crucial Cargo Stakeholders engagement, reaffirming its dedication to elevating Nigeria’s cargo and aviation handling industry.

The event served as a pivotal forum for collaboration and strategic discussions among key players in SAHCO’s cargo logistics network, aiming to boost trade and efficiency within the sector.

The gathering drew a diverse array of participants, including clearing agents, exporters, and logistics professionals.

Central to the discussions was the imperative to reposition Nigeria’s cargo industry as a primary catalyst for economic diversification and to bolster government initiatives aimed at sustainable growth.

Managing Director/CEO of SAHCO, Mrs. Adenike Aboderin, whose remarks were delivered by Mrs. Boma Ukwunna, Executive Director, Cargo Services, expressed profound gratitude to partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support.

She emphasized that the event not only celebrated the sector’s achievements but also provided a vital opportunity to share insights, pinpoint challenges, and strengthen industry partnerships.

The SAHO boss reiterated SAHCO’s commitment to continuous investment in state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. She highlighted that SAHCO currently operates some of the nation’s most advanced Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and warehousing solutions, all meticulously designed to ensure efficient and compliant cargo operations.

Discussions at the event also delved into critical issues such as the substandard packaging of many Nigerian export products and the urgent need to improve packaging standards to compete effectively in international markets.

The challenge of limited effective traceability systems, crucial for ensuring product accountability from origin to destination, was also a key talking point.

The lack of formal training among clearing agents and freight forwarders was identified as a contributing factor to inadequate documentation, unethical practices, and touting.

Participants stressed the importance of acquiring proper certifications within the cargo industry to enhance efficiency and bolster industry reliability.

The Cargo Stakeholders’ Meeting ultimately provided a unified platform to align objectives, advocate for sectoral reforms, and chart a clear course for the future of Nigeria’s cargo logistics industry.
