South African Airways (SAA) has announced a significant expansion of its African flight network, with increased frequencies to key destinations starting in November 2024.
The airline will operate 12 weekly flights to both Harare and Lusaka, up from the current 10 times a week to each destination. Flights to Lagos and Accra will also see an increase, with four weekly flights planned starting in November, compared to the current three.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), SAA will enhance its presence by flying five times a week to Kinshasa. Domestically, the airline will increase its flights to Gqeberha to three times a day.
SAA’s Interim CEO, Professor John Lamola, emphasized the airline’s commitment to connecting Africa.
“After a rapid route expansion since 2021, SAA aims to consolidate its position and strengthen its role in connecting the continent,” he stated.
“South Africa has witnessed a promising travel recovery this year, with most visitors coming from other parts of Africa. Our strategic growth focuses on expanding routes based on demand and feasibility, while also fulfilling our mandate as a national carrier to contribute to South Africa’s economic growth.”
SAA is also set to increase the frequency of its flights to Mauritius and Perth. The airline will begin flying twice daily to Mauritius from the beginning of December to coincide with the peak holiday season.
Flights to Perth, a popular destination for South Africans, will increase to five times a week starting from January 7, 2025.
