Serious Aircraft Incident Prompts Delays, Diversions at Abuja Airport

There were delays of flights and passengers at the Abuja International airport this morning as inbound aircraft could not land due to a serious incident involving an aircraft, Cally Air operated by Aero Contractors.

This led to the diversion of inbound flights from different places to other alternate airports like Kano while out bound from the airport were delayed.

According to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, a serious incident involving a Boeing 737 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.

The Bureau in a news release says, it was notified and has commenced investigation into which occured “around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023”.

It adds, “Consequently, the runway was closed pending the towing of the aircraft from the runway”.

“There was no injury or fatality. The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation”. 

However, the aircraft had since been towed away from the runway and flight operations have resumed.
