Security operatives raid Lagos airport, arrest 21 persons for illegal activities

Twenty-One persons including touts, illegal foreign exchange dealers, hawkers and scavengers are currently with the Nigerian Police answering questions on their illegal activities at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport MMIA Lagos.

These persons were raided and arrested by the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) and the Aviation Security Crime Investigation & Intelligence for their activities in the environment and handed over to the NPF.

The Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua in a news statement, says, the arrests were made in the landside, the carparks  and the airport access roads. 

“The apprehended suspects have since been transferred to the Nigerian Police Force through the CII for further necessary action”.  

“The Murtala  Muhammed Airport (MMA) JMTF and AVSEC-CII raided the ITZ 1 & 2 Unit has since the past few weeks conducted raids in this regard. Cable thieves and other miscreants have been apprehended in the course of these raids”. 

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) warns that anyone who has no legitimate business at the airports to desist from approaching the airports”. 

He adds, “The safety  and security of airport users and the airport environment is of utmost importance and cannot be compromised”. 

According to him, the Authority is determined to rid the airport environment of touts and perpetrators of illegitimate activities.
