The intruder who gained access into the runway of the Lagos airport is alleged to have been deported back to his country, Niger Republic.
The intruder whose name was given as Usman Adamu, a Nigerien attempted to climb an AZMAN aircraft on the runway of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport while taxiing for take off on July 19th.
Investigation revealed that Adamu was deported last week Friday by the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The Nigerien was said to have gone through series of profiling, interrogation and test including psychiatric test, to ascertain his mental state and it was confirmed that he was unstable.
It would be recalled that the Port Harcourt-bound flight AZMAN plane was delayed for close to an hour as passengers panicked as the yet-to-be-identified man climbed the aircraft while it was about to take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja.
He was later apprehended by Aviation Security Personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and taken to its detention facility, before the case was transferred to the Police for further investigation.
Following the development, FAAN gave an indefinite suspension to the Aviation Security Unit heads who were on duty when the incident occurred.
FAAN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, had in a statement, said the agency viewed the breach as a serious security concern.
She said FAAN had begun investigation to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the incident to forestall future occurrence.
Yakubu said the suspension of the personnel was pending the completion of investigation into the security infringement.
