The Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) has dismissed an employee found guilty of extorting a passenger at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

An investigation conducted by SAHCO revealed that the staff, in collusion with other airport workers, extorted N100,000 from a traveler bound for South Africa in December.

The incident involved Oyewale Oyesiji, a first-time traveler from Osun State, who alleged he was extorted by airport workers during his departure to South Africa.

Following the investigation, the employee was found culpable and subsequently terminated from employment.

A source within SAHCO confirmed the dismissal, emphasizing the company’s zero-tolerance policy for such misconduct.

“We cannot afford to allow any staff or anyone to soil our name. We are committed to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in our operations.”

Mrs. Vanessa Uansohia, Head of Corporate Communications at SAHCO, while declining to comment extensively on the specific case, reiterated the company’s commitment to ethical conduct.

“We condemn any act of extortion, harassment, or unethical behavior among our staff.

“This reported incident is contrary to our values and code of conduct”, she added.

SAHCO has consistently been recognized by industry stakeholders for its commitment to professional standards and ethical practices.
