The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA says, it will not tolerate any gang up by airlines both local and International to fix price without its knowledge.
The Director General, NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu who stated this at the 46th Annual General Meeting of the National Association of the Nigeria Travel Agencies, NANTA in Kano with the theme: ‘ Antitrust: Opportunities Available for Protection of the Nigeria Travel Market’ says, the Regulatory agency had taken some steps to protect the customers and travel agencies in this regard.
According to him, it would publicize soon sanctions so far taken to nip gang up and price fixing in the bud.
He described Antitrust as, “when a group of people providing services come together and gang up and fix prices to the detriment of the traveling public and those who are using these services”.
The NCAA boss stated that, there were regulations in place that prohibits such practices and efforts were ongoing to ensure such regulations were implemented.
“The traveling public can be rest assured that we are working on them”.
He stressed that, the intent of the Authority was to get the system working after the economic downturn brought about by the pandemic and ensure that, it is effective not only for the provision of affordable, efficient and safe services to the customers but also for the customers protection.
“Significant part of our functions is economic regulatory functions”.
The NCAA boss stated that, it was working in collaboration with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC as a lot of complaints go to them.
“We are working together for the benefits of the Industry, we don’t believe in blowing our trumpets”.
