In a bid to enhance the operational efficiency and passenger experience at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA), the Rivers State Government has launched a significant infrastructure upgrade project.
The ambitious initiative aims to modernize the airport facilities and improve safety standards, positioning PHIA as a key travel hub in the South-South region.
According to management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN, the project, which is already underway, involves the expansion of the airport’s access road, rehabilitation of internal roads, and the construction of a dedicated drop-off zone at the Domestic Terminal Zone (DTZ).
Also, the terminal building’s road infrastructure is being comprehensively reconstructed to create a welcoming and efficient environment for arriving and departing passengers.
The upgrade also includes the remodelling of the toll gate area and the day and overnight car parks, which are nearing completion.
The project is expected to be completed in a timely manner, minimizing disruption to airport operations while delivering a more efficient and attractive environment for travelers.
The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the modernization of the airport facilities to meet international aviation standards.
The project is expected to contribute positively to the economic growth of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole, while promoting Port-Harcourt as a key travel hub in the region.
FAAN stated that, travellers and stakeholders can look forward to a more modern, efficient, and safer airport in the coming months.
