PBAT Initiates Sweeping Reforms in Aviation Sector: Key CEOs Suspended, Replaced

President Bola Tinubu has authorized a significant overhaul within the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, approving the suspension, removal, and replacement of key Chief Executive Officers.

The decision, aimed at enhancing standards in Nigerian Civil Aviation, was announced by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity.

The changes include the removal of Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed as the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), replaced by Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku.

Similarly, Mr. Tayib Adetunji Odunowo, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), has been replaced by Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk.

Engr. Akinola Olateru, the Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has been replaced by Mr. Alex Badeh Jr, while Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), is succeeded by Prof. Charles Anosike. Capt. Alkali Mahmud Modibbo, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), is replaced by Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe on an acting basis.

Moreover, Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has been suspended pending an unfettered investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Capt. Chris Najomo assumes the role of Acting Director-General during this period.

President Tinubu has also greenlit the commencement of a rigorous process led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to appoint a substantive Vice-Chancellor and other key officers for the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU).

The President emphasizes the importance of the new leadership prioritizing the safety, convenience, and comfort of the Nigerian people and calls for the immediate establishment of world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory frameworks to align with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
