The interdepartmental Football Match of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has ended in Lagos with the Directorate of Human Resources and Administration, DHR&A clinching the trophy after beating the Directorate of Airport Operations to a 1-0 goal.
The winner of the tournament, DHR&A apart from the trophy was given the first of N750, 000, the first runner up, DAO, N500, 000, and the third placed team the N350, 000 prizes. Medals were also given to all the players.
Before the commencement of the main match, there was a Novelty match between the Green and Naval Blue team which comprised staff across the departments, the match ended goalless.
The final match between the DAO and DHR&A was witnessed by the DAO, Captain Muktar Muye, HR&A Mr. Norris Anozie and Finance/Accounts, Mrs. Nike Aboderin, staff of FAAN and other spectators who were continuously in jubilant mood from the start to end of the game.
In an interview with reporters, the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Jimoh Sanni said the tournament was held annually to strengthen the unity among staff of the authority.
“The essence of the tournament is to instill unity, togetherness and fair play among the seven directorates in FAAN. We see it as a family game.
There is no loser or winner at the end of the day. Every contestant has something to go home with, including the team that came seventh in the tournament, but as you all know, the team that comes first would get highest prize available. That is the rule”.
“We want to enhance our health status and improve our productivity with this competition. We know that a healthy worker is a productive worker.
He added, “That is what we are driving out. This competition like others is sponsored by the management. And management is ever ready to shoulder any issue that may arise from this competition such as injury and others”.
In 2020, Mr. Sanni explained that the LOC was looking forward to including lawn tennis, table tennis and basketball apparently to involve more staff to the sporting activities.
Director, HR&A, Mr. Norris Anozie also stressed that the tournament is make FAAN workers understand that everybody as staff have a time to enjoy.
“All work and no play, this is the time to play and all the directorates are present so they will witness that the play is for all of us to enjoy a moment”.
